Every year regular gymgoers observe the same trend. January is filled with unfamiliar members who enter a plan to work out hard. Many of their dreams to live healthy end by February. Their wish to be physically healthy is short-lived.

Mente Soul aims for most missions to be successful. The start of the year is a great time to create intentions. This isn’t the only possible date, however. Any minute is ready to change when your brain chooses. Whenever we review goals for the future our values are tested.

As January begins here are 2023 fitness resolution tips to remember:

Examine Intentions

Scheduling training days relates to your values. The new year gym member crowd will be used as an example. After weeks of binge eating sweets and drinking unhealthy beverages, they want to start fresh. They think of an iconic weightlifter such as Arnold and say, “I will do my best to look like him.”

Fast-forward to the next month and investigate their goal. This person began the first week by going to a weightlifting gym twice a week. They only went once at the end of four weeks. “I want time to relax after long days. Maybe I’ll try again soon.” Their gym membership cancels.

This first-time exerciser set a goal far out of his reach. The notion to look like a star may start as motivational but is lost after results aren’t apparent after a day. In this aspect, the body’s ability to manipulate aesthetics is unachievable after 31 days.

The aspiring exerciser made a goal to look like Arnold. This intention doesn’t have an honest want. Challenging your entire lifestyle requires determination to achieve the objective. The fitness resolution could’ve been to exercise for 2 hours per week. Once results are met, the goal is furthered by exercising with weights for 1 hour and walking for 60 min. every week.

Short-Term Results

The length of time it takes to reveal outcomes gives many moments to waste motivation. When the objective is far above our level it won’t take many failures before motivation is lost. This happens to most people wishing to start a habit, but missing their past. Relapse affects everyone.

Imagine an overweight individual setting a goal to look like Arnold. This idea is amazing, but not achievable unless they maintain dedication for many years. A goal to lose 2lb body fat every week is achievable every 7 days supporting results to gain muscle.

Accomplished results encourage goals to advance toward the objective. Refer to SMART goals which can be read at Set Goals when intentions are set.

2023 Fitness Resolution Tips

After considering personal intentions and short-term results such as the exercise frequency for the new gymgoer, here are other questions to ask –

  • Who do I want to be?

    • Does this goal follow the mission’s path?

  • Is the goal attainable?

    • Don’t compare the goal to anyone besides yourself.

    • A person who can’t perform 1 pull up should set a goal to complete 1 pull up not 10 reps

  • What is the plan?

    • On which days and hours will this goal be practiced?

    • What are optional days in case an unexpected event prevents the scheduled hour?

  • How will I know the goal was achieved?

    • A weight loss goal, for example, would be weighing 1 lb. less at the end of a week than at the start

  • Where’s the support?

    • Who will you tell about the goal and its progress?

    • Are there friends or family who will ask about the endeavor?
